Working as a mechanic can be quite demanding, because you need to stay in an uncomfortable position for a long period of time. At the same time, the work can be quite messy, especially when you have to deal with oily and greasy parts and equipment.

Strong communication skills are also an essential part of being a good auto mechanic. Thus, you need to be able to clearly explain what is wrong with a vehicle and what can be done to fix the issues.

Special training should begin in high school, when those who want to become auto mechanics can get familiar with special tools and various car models and brands. Another great way of learning this profession is by observing other people who are already working in this field. Or you can get a part-time job as a sales assistant, and thus get more familiar with car-related components.

Post-secondary qualifications are always a plus. Again, you can choose from a wide range of domains, including heavy vs. light vehicles, parts interpreting, auto electrical, etc.
